Thoughts on Something 2 Dance 2?
Main Post:
Has anyone else found themselves scratching their heads about the effect this song has as the final track on Straight Outta Compton? Not that I think it’s a bad track, but it just feels so different from anything else on the album.
Having just listened through the album again, it feels to me like they wanted to put something goofy and light at the end to be a jarring contrast to all of the tales of street life. It’s as though N.W.A. anticipated first-time listeners would have their mouths hanging open in shock from everything preceding this track, and thus it’s like they’re doing a little dance around the audience they’re delighted to have scandalized.
The funny thing is, the album does have other songs that aren’t gangsta rap, starting with Express Yourself. After that one, you have the acapella Compton’s N the House, then I Ain’t the 1, which is a return to being gangsta again. Dopeman is called gangsta rap too, but still, doesn’t that beat feel like something that would have fit wholesome raps just as easily if it were released earlier in the decade? Then you’ve got Quiet on the Set: distinctly not gangsta again.
Still, with the overall sound of the album getting less gangsta towards the end, doesn’t Something 2 Dance 2 still feel like such a contrast to all of those tracks in terms of overall tone? Definitely a unique choice for closing out this classic album.

An Honest and Enthusiastic Review of Dance 2 Trance's "We Came in Peace" (1992)
Main Post:
When I first heard Dance 2 Trance's "We Came in Peace", I was blown away by its hypnotic, mesmerizing quality. The track opens with a soft, ethereal synth melody that gradually builds in intensity, adding layers of percussion and otherworldly sounds until it reaches a driving, pulsing rhythm that practically begs you to dance.
The vocal sample, which repeats the phrase "we came in peace", adds a sense of otherworldliness and mystery to the track, lending it a science-fiction quality that feels both futuristic and timeless. I find myself getting lost in the track's swirling, atmospheric soundscapes, carried along by the relentless beat and hypnotic melodies.
One thing that stands out to me about "We Came in Peace" is its impeccable production. The way the different elements of the track are layered and mixed together is masterful, with each sound and texture blending seamlessly into the next. The track feels like a journey, taking me on a sonic adventure through different moods and emotions.
Top Comment: This track, Papua New Guinea, and Age of Love were some of the first trance tracks created and all still hold up so well 30+ years later To quote Darktremor : Another contender for first trance song ever created. Whether this track came first, or Age of Love is questionable, but the quality of this little masterpiece is indisputable. Almost like minimal goa, mixed with James Holden-esque progressive (but of course, it predates all of that). It's reminiscent of being on the moon, or on the surface of an alien world: exactly the way trance should sound.

Am I the only one who loves how good Laurieanne is with the girls? She's tough but she's building them up not tearing them down. I know it's all for the show's theme to juxtapose Abby vs Laurieanne but the girls were affected by Abby's nastiness, even when fake/exaggerated for the show, so who's to say the girls didn't feel great having Laurieanne tell them they're awesome and powerful dancers
